God has directed me to read the book of Romans, and as I read through the first few chapters I look at the people of Rome and realize how close in comparison we as Americans are to the Romans.
Romans were idol worshipers, they exchanged the wisdom of God with the wisdom of their current world, they gave up their desire to be holy for a desire to explore same sex relations, they were undiscerning of the judgment of God and were heading for an eternity in hell.
What is even more sad as I look at the current church of today I see a generation that is so desiring to be like the world. This generation seeks out every opportunity to be as close to the world without being labeled worldly in return their identity is being lost and their faith weakened under the cover of compromise.
Romans 1:16 says “For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes.” Paul was making a statement, he was declaring a standard, he was waving a big banner before the Church in Rome. “BE NOT ASHAMED OF THE GOSPEL!”
Whenever I read the Bible and I see the word, “FOR” I was always told, “look to see what it is there for.” In verse 17 it tells us why we are to be unashamed of the Gospel. Check this out - Romans 1:17 “For in it (the gospel, good news, message of Christ) the righteousness of God (the standard of living) is revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”
In our search for right living in a generation that lives so wrong, we need to realize that we are in such need of an understanding of the Gospel, the good news of Jesus, and what he lived and died for. So today seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Let go of the desire to live as close to the world without being worldly, instead live as close to love in order to be love, for God is love.
